“Deissel gets his bite back”

Deissel, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois is one of the newest members of the Lebanon Police Department.
Having come to the Upper Valley through a Dutch breeder, Deissel had a very bright future with the department’s canine unit.
He was learning his commands quickly and his partner, Officer Jeremy Perkins was forming a tight bond with him. Suddenly in
November Deissel appeared off. His ears drooped and when officers reached to pet him his head

Spring Staff Retreat, Monday, June 1, 2009
Dr. Schell hosted an informative & fun 7 hour staff retreat just up the road from the dental practice. All team members were in attendance for the day long event. The retreat began with a warm breakfast & conversation. The sole purpose for the retreat was to focus on team building outside of the fast pace dental office environment. Read more here

Dr Schell has been invited to sit on a panel of physicians at Dartmouth Sleep Disorders Center to discuss alternatives to traditional therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Brainstorming about cases where traditional therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnea is unsuccessful, the CPAP Alternative Case Conference team consists of sleep specialists, surgeons and Dr Schell who represents dental considerations and alternatives for treatment.

Dr Schell has been asked to deliver a talk on dental injuries to the emergency room staff at Dartmouth Medical Center. The lecture, Concussive Dental Injuries; Tooth Re-Implantation and Stabilization will be delivered along with an emergency kit donated for the handling of these emergencies. Schell takes emergency call for the medical center and also consults with attending physicians concerning dental problems with the in-patient population.

Dr Schell is teaching a class again the Fall for the first and second year Dartmouth Medical Students. He, along with Dr Noble and Dennison are presenting this elective clinical course where two students are chosen to gain first hand experience into the science and understanding of dental disease and how it relates to medical health overall. Dental emergencies, Trauma, Obstructive Sleep Apnea treatments, Oral Surgery and intraoral local anesthesia, Periodontal diseases, endodontic abcess and other topics will be discussed and observed clinically.

The
office had a wonderful time cruising Lake Sunapee
as the staff met for their annual early Fall get
together on the MV Sunapee cruise boat. The laughter
and giggling spilled out across the afternoon and
evening water as we wound up a very busy summer and
look forward to another. it was a wonderful time
for staff members and their spouses to re-connect
and for some, meet for the first time. A great time
was had by all...including the boat staff who each
year remark what a wonderful and fun team we have.

office will be closed toward the end of the second
week of November as we all travel to Florida for
a course by renouned Dr. Frank Spear from the Seattle
Institute. The entire team will be involved in extensive
training as we embark on the "Practice of Excellence" course;
a clinical and professional in-depth training seminar
in the methods of providing the highest level quality
care for each and every individual patient's needs.

Schell and Dr. Noble will be traveling to Florida
to take a course in complex esthetic dentistry from
one of the field premier lecturers, Dr. William Strupp.
Dr.Strupp is one of the most highly regarded lecturer
in his field today, his courses are always tremendously
informative and up-to-date.

office was closed Friday as our Dentists and Hygienists
traveled to Concord New Hampshire for a full day
course given by Dr. Randy Huffines, DDS titled "Successfully
Treating Older Adults: Techniques For the Entire
Dental Team" An engaging lecturer and selfless educator
in the important field of Geriatric dentistry, Dr.
Huffines is a specialist in Geriodontology and equipped
us in the latest information regarding medical complications,
pharmacology, materials and techniques in this important
field. The team returns inspired and excited to take
on these challenges on one of our most deserving
populations.

Dr
Schell and the office managers Terri and Ann have
just returned from the National Sleep Medicine Convention
in Baltimore Maryland as they continued the study
of the emerging field of Dental Sleep Medicine. A
member of the the American Academies of Sleep Medicine
and Dental Sleep Medicine, Dr Schell and his staff
are currently helping an extraordinary number of
patients with the severe and debilitating syndrome
known as Sleep Apnea. Working closely with Medical
doctors and sleep specialists, A variety of dental
devices are being fabricated and applied for these
patients who cannot tolerate positive pressure devices,
(CPAP)

You might notice that since the beginning of '08 the radiographs taken in our office are of a new digital technique; eliminating much of the radiation, chemicals and time it takes to capture and view them. They are comfortable and very highly accurate. They also act as wonderful educational tools -- popping up immediately in front of the patient on a large monitor; with guidance, they emphasis health and disease in a very clear and understandable manner to the patient. These can be emailed for consultative purposes and reproduced with very little effort.
